Oddly Sure and Banksy Redux: Cool Runnings All the Way

Just to let you know that despite the global financial meltdown and the downfall of another wall--Wall Street--WE ARE NOT IN PANIC MODE in Jamaica. Don't worry, be happy, Audley Shaw, our Finance Minister seems to be saying. Are things snowballing? You think we have a snowball's chance in hell of making it? Fret not, remember our prowess at bobsledding? We will survive man! Think positive! NO! NO! Not HIV Positive! Positive! Positive!
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy......
Bobby McFerrin got the idea for his song from the oft-repeated saying of an Indian mystic, Meher Baba, whose most famous utterance apparently was, Don't worry, be happy...just thought you'd like to know--

And speaking of the downfall of another wall my young friend Peter Dean Rickards (The Afflicted One) has struck again. The man who 'outed' Banksy last year is now giving away a piece of wall that the graffiti superstar left his tag on when he visited Kingston some years ago. Not only that--he's selling 10 photos of the wall being taken down for US$100,000 on eBay. If you buy all 10 you'll be the proud owner of the ex-Mona Pub wall as well...check it out.

i know i know, i miss seeing that wall everytime i pass by...

my understanding is he would have struck a deal with the owner of the premises, he didn't just take it so...

actually people from the area protested its removal but the owner decided to sell it, so...and as pd says sooner or later someone was going to do this...

Pd, hadn't seen your comment when i wrote the one before this...oh ok $100,000 for all...my mistake...let me correct it...

god what a bunch of drunks...its a small miracle that thing didnt smash to hell...of course i had to pay the owner of the wall and seeing as he lives in that pub where germans students constantly tell him how much 'million dalla that worth', he was well aware of what the wall was.

Thing is, even if someone else chopped it down ( and that was inevitable anyway), there's probably nobody that could sell it anyway.

Hey Annie, you have space in your garage? The guy who let me keep it at his place wants his garage back.

nice video, like the lack of color.

No free rent fi di Banksy wall!

An idea - maybe people can take turns "hosting" the Banksy wall and make an event around it - throw a party with a "wall" theme, have folks turn used building blocks and pieces of concrete in works of art, host a discussion on grafitti in Ja. etc. etc. Why not have more people get something out of this besides glorification of PDR? No offense meant PDR but this is really all about you so far...

UWI course 201HIS: Graffiti in Jamaica

'A look into the recent history of Jamaican graffiti and its impact on the socio-psychology of the upper middle class and the subversive political intentions of the proletariat...and L.A Lewis.

I think UWI should be made into a Wal-Mart.

LB,

what a wonderful idea! the only thing is i don't know if you realize that a small earth mover is required to hoist this chunk of wall on and off the flatbed truck...or about twenty drunks from the Mona Pub...who would be inclined to take it back to ground zero...
